Apple Event 2009: New iPod Touch Sales Plugged
By: Jamie Pert | September 9, 2009 | Leave a CommentDuring today’s Apple Event Apple decided to talk about the success of their iPod’s, according to the event since the iPod was released they have sold over 220 million units. This has resulted in iPod holding the biggest slice of portable media player market share (currently at 73.8%).
During the announcement they are quick to mention that currently Microsoft only account for 1.1% of the market share, whether this will change drastically when the Zune HD is released is unknown, personally I feel that it will impact the market positively, however I doubt will put Apple under much pressure.
Since the release of the iPod Touch Apple have some 20 million units, they have also sold over 30 million iPhone’s, the reason behind this is because these devices are also great for hand-held gaming (much to Nintendo and Sony’s dismay). Also the device packs so much processing power that it is basically a pocket netbook to many.
Also during the announcement some developers were invited on stage to talk about the iPhone and iPod Touch, Ben Mattes who is Assassin’s Creed’ producer said this about the devices “Apple has created a world class gaming experience on this platform.”, he then showed off the sequel to Assassin’s Creed.
