Apple’s Snow Leopard: HP Printer Problems

Apple’s Snow Leopard: HP Printer Problems

By: Alan Ng | September 6, 2009 | 33 Comments

We mentioned about the Snow Leopard 10.6.1 patch update that is on the way soon, but now we have some more details for you regarding one of the biggest issues with the new Snow Leopard software.

As DbTechno points out, many people are unhappy with Apple after the Snow Leopard update has resulted in many HP printers being incompatible with Snow Leopard.

We can back that up too, as one of our HP printers is having problems getting the wireless to work, when it was never an issue before on the old OS.

Futhermore, it is also having problems in relation to network setup, again which didn’t happen before. Are you having problems with your HP printer with Snow Leopard installed? Let us know if you are experiencing similar problems.

We’ll keep you updated on the situation.

For crying out loud, every operating system has problems with
Hewlette Packard printers. In fact, HP installation disks have problems with HP printers. The computer industry has sunk lower than the auto industry.

My HP PSC 2500 scan/fax/printer is now print only. I’m annoyed. Scanning doesn’t work, the HP web site says the drivers are print only. What rubbish.

I’ve always felt that Apple drivers have always been the neglected step-children in HP printers (last updated in Early 2008!). But good to know it’s not just Apple, I guess….

Apple lists printers compatible with SL:

I posted a work-around that got my 6210 up and running, as in Leopard, for scanning/printing:

Neither of my HP printers will print after the Snow Leopard upgrade including one that is USB ATTACHED to one of my iMacs! All the Snow Leopard problems remind me of the Windows world and why I left it a year ago! Leopard was very stable, a great OS. Snow is a POS!!

    Not only HP 960c but a OKIB2200 don’t work.

My HP Deskjet D4160 does not work neither connected directly to the computer and through the time capsule… Hope the update will come soon…

I am totally non computer person but was beguiled by the snow leopard upgrade advert beamed direct to my computer. I bought it and installed it.
Now I can’t print anything on my HP printer, despite a visit to the Apple store, and my internet banking has died. I wish I had left well alone. I have no idea how to correct any of this and would be grateful for any help.

My D4360 is not compatible. So very frustrating. I am upset with HP and Apple!!

  • Bill

My HP Photosmart 1215 has now been rendered a brick! This will be the LAST printer from HP I ever buy! What a bad joke.

I’m having trouble with all my printers at work. One’s an HP LaserJet 8000N. I understand little bugs, but incompatible print drivers seems like a pretty big thing to miss before you release a new system.

I am having problems printing from my HP Laserjet P1005 after installing Snow Leopard.

  • Terry

after installing Snow Leopard, I cannot print from my HP Laserjet P`005.

  • Anton

My HP 1005 Laserjet will not work with Snow Leopard, and I’ve tried various solutions and downloads suggested on the net.

Visited the Apple shop yet again, another couple of hours spent with very nice people and they got my printer to respond to my computer and print out a document. Great ! packed up the computer and printer, drove home and connected it all up again. Back to exactly where I was before – no connection to the printer ! by turning it off, I presume the Snow Leopard had somehow wiped out the connection. Just so frustrating…….
The banking is OK now by installing Firefox, this now works.
I have a really old Epson printer, so I dragged it down from the loft, spent an afternoon tracking down old style ink cartridges and it works like a dream ! but I now have a photocopier (defunct printer now) and an old printer under my kitchen table (my work area) and a lot of wires.
Am going back to Apple next week – couldn’t face it this week again !

*Sigh* Upgraded to Snow Leopard. Everything’s fine. Then just now I go to print a page… My Mac doesn’t even *see* my printer. (It worked just fine before I upgraded.)

    Grrrrr!

  • http://www.blork.org/blorkblog blork

Oh wait… The reason it didn’t see my HP printer was because my girlfriend had rearranged some furniture and had accidentally pulled out the USB cable. I plugged it in and now the printer works fine. False alarm!

My PSC2510 will print, but I can’t scan. The scanning software doesn’t see the printer at all over the network. When I connect via USB, it sees and talks to the printer, tries to scan, and then quits with an “unexpected error.”

My HP 2610 will print but the scanning does not function as a result of installing Snow Leopard

I have no problem with my two HP printers attached to my MacBook because Snow Leopard install the rigth drivers. But from my other Laptop with Vista I cant print to those printers through my wireless router as before upgrade to the new OSx. I think its a question of drivers, Isnt it?

I bought both my AppleMac and HP 8100 all in one Printer / Scanner from Apple itself.

Since installing Snow Leopard my HP all in one will only print. This is an appalling situation. Does Apple or HP even care. They are taking the mickey out of us.

Thinking of going back to Windows!

I was an apple user from 1986 until 1999. I got a PC to be “compatable” with my office staff. I quit doing the interesting things you can do with an apple Eg. cartoons, t-shirts, flyers, etc. and did only what my PC told me I could do. Eg. word processing and virus protection. I complained to anyone who would listen for 9+years. I kind of liked my HP tablet PC but a second PC then got stolen in a car burglary. I heard apple was now very compatable with everything. I was excited to be a Mac guy again and a friend told me to wait for snow leopard. I waited weeks. Now, Ironically, I can’t print on my HP 2600n. After paying 2k for this computer, I don’t relish the idea of junking my printer, explaining to my wife that my beloved apple is not compatable or hearing the chugging noise and virus pop ups on my wife’s toshiba pc. Fix your snow leopard apple.

Not had any problems. Incidentally, in a room full of Windows PCs, my Snow Leopard Mac is the only machine that doesn’t have problems printing to the office networked HP 4650. Also not had any problems at home with the HP 2500n on Wifi.

problem with all in one 2700 after upgrade to Snow on both Imac and mac air.

  • Charles Borgman

MY HP6500 printer has stopped working with Word for Mac after I installed the snow leopard update. I had some problems getting it to work at all, but now it will print from other programs but not from WORD.

  • jimm

sigh hp 2610 and snow leopard is one waste of time….
did the uninstall for the hp then go to systems prefs etc
now the printer pretends to print ( makes the right noises) no product.
did the usual on off stuff. reboot etc
guess i will wait a while
    SL sucks.

HP C6250 became a brick once Snow Leopard was installed. The problem was solved when I replaced it with a Canon (an all of 15 customers who had the same issue) HP should expect a thank you card from Canon for their royal #@*% up.

  • Roberta

I publish a calendar and newsletter for the apt. complex I live in. Snow Leopard would not recognize my HP printer. I am using a Print Shop for MAC version 2. Have never had a problem before with any of my applications I use. I ended up printing a page at a time… My HP is a Deskjet 6988, purchased in February. There should be no problem but I have had a very long day with getting my projects done under the deadline.

  • Colette

My Epson SX600 has also stopped working since update.

  • Bob

As soon I confirm another printer/scanner manufacture other than HP has a scanning utility that works with their products I am dumping my C6180 Photosmart printer and will never return to HP. HP has really dropped the ball on delivering a fix to their software that worked perfectly before this upgrade to Snow Leopard. A company their size…they should be embarrassed!

I could not get my HP Laserjet 2100 TN to work with Snow Leopard. Everyone I turned to for help — Apple Support in California, HP, Apple Service Centers and dealers — either told me “it should work” or I should buy a new printer. It took me two months but I finally found the solution. I am happy to share it with anyone who needs help with this issue.

P.S. I had originally configured the printer using Mac OS 9 and Apple Talk.

I have an HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One and was having the same problems with SL, both wireless and through an ethernet-thru-router connection. I went to the Apple Support page and found the below link.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3140

I followed the steps and got to the "Print from another application" section. They suggested using a Native Apple application like Text Edit. I opened Text Edit, typed "test print" and printed. SL found the printer via ethernet cable and immediately printed. I noticed SL created a new instance of the printer on my Print & Fax System Preferences list. I deleted the non-working instance and tried to print from Excel…no issues! I disconnected my ethernet and printed from Excel again…no issues!

    Hope this helps!!

Update. It went back to having the same issues with wireless printing. Wired works, wireless not so much.

Update…I rinsed and repeated the deletion and re-installation using Text Edit…and it is working wirelessly again…mystery solved? We'll see.
