PS3 Update 3.00: What Features Were Missed?

To be honest, after fiddling around with it the last 10 minutes or so, I found no real benefits to the new update.

There’s now 2 playstation stores, making it seem cluttered and pointless.

The ‘Whats new?’ icon links you to a handfull of game releases and new videos,something you would find within seconds on the playstation store by selecting ‘Latest’. The recently played list being completly pointless since you probably can remember the last 3 games you played…

The play videos in slowmotion is rather fruitless also (how oftern are you wanting to play a part of a movie in slow motion to the extent that the sound is stretched out painfully.

The new friend layout (just putting grey boxes around them… enthralling…)

The only good thing i think is that now when you press the PS button to find out the time the controller battery indicator doesn’t obscure the clock, apart from that I just hang my head in shame at the terrible things Sony want to bring us, whilst they avoid so many features people are after.

I think some of the new features are cool, but it certainly doesn’t warrant a whole new number upgrade to 3.00 I think at the very least they need to put in some sort of audio indicator as to when you get a message, surely that isn’t much to ask?

I also kinda miss the PS3 jingle when you start a game

It’d be nice to see some real updates like the ones mentioned, certainly an update to allow you to listen to your own music in-game would be greatly appreciated!

The only feature I want is support for the popular MKV container format. This is a frequent request by the PS3 user community and opens up the PS3 to quite a lot of hi-def content.

never gonna happen. Sony know most torrent sites that have MKV files are in direct competition with their blu ray films. Id love it if they did, but i reckon they want you to keep buying blu-rays, and not downloading HD films illegally.

Very very disappointing. The internet browser is in serious need of updating. As it is now, it’s essentially useless.

That feature would make the system perfect to me.

This update is useless. I’m sure not just me but everyone has been waiting for a good decent update so we can be happy about. Every single update we have had it has been pointless. Come on Sony the xbox have updates all the time and they are alot better than ours!

We need proper stuff lyk:
- party chat
- music while on games
- updated Internet browser
- a new home screen look cuz it’s boring!

I have PS3 using HDMI connected to the TV – then TV connected to AMP through an Optical Audio connection.

everything was fine, did an update on PS3 to V3 of the firmware and now I get a clicking noise through the AMP.

When I use the Optical Audio cable directly from the PS3 to the AMP it’s ok but I have to unplug the Cable from the TV and plug it into the PS3 everytime I want to use the PS3 now

This firmware update is a real embarrassment. It’s such a shame that the workers of Sony don’t even know anything about making a successful console anymore. They totally ruined their reputation with their dumb pointless actions which they consider to be “improvements” what is the world coming to? Such a shame, it makes me wonder if i should ever buy any product made by sony ever again? where do they even get the ideas for pathetic pointless things like the stuff in update 3.00?? i hear the company doesnt look at certain forums for guidelines on what people really want and then again who really knows the answers? they must be listening to some ps3 users but only the childish pathetic ones who don’t know their ps3′s are capable of playing hundreds to thousands of x264 ac3 mkv hd video files for example…it just goes to truly show how day by day the world is turning into a more messed up place. if u ask me, gaming consoles are finished..there should never be another one ever built again! because a ps3 is nothing more than a pc it has a nvidia geforce 7800 graphics cards, certain amount of unmovable RAM, blu-ray readable disc drive..(for those of you who don’t know much and think ya ps3 is so kool because you keep hearing it plays bluray, you people aren’t smart..it is nothing different than any other blu-ray disc drive u would find in a standalone bd player or computer that has 1). every single thing a ps3 can do a pc can do better..

And I hate the fact that I am not able to contact the workers of Sony that create these firmware updates to let them know what’s really needed and what is definately not needed. There’s nothing needed in firmware update 3.00 at all except for maybe the new dual audio thing because it is a hardware type of thing that is actually considered to be an improvement i guess (if it even works the way it should).
ALL THEY NEED IS A FEATURE LOCATED IN THE XMB UNDER —-SYSTEM—- AND THEN IN THE —SYSTEM SETTINGS— an add or remove programs type of feature like you have in the control panel of windows pc operating systems such as windows xp and so on. Except it will not be there to really “add” or “remove” a “program” but instead to simply tick or untick tiny checkboxes which could be located next to each option and you press the X button to select/unselect. and when once selected then the configuration should ‘save’ and then whichever options are selected, will simply not be displayed in the xmb at all so there is no dealing with it but if we wanted to have it back then we could by going back to the same add or remove thing and then untick the box. it doesnt take a genius to picture what that would look or feel like!!!!!!!! there is no real words to explain the wrong things about this firmware update 3.00 it is simply a pointless mistake by sony. must be set back to previous firmware or at least options to allow or disallow all xmb features which are really not required. Like, whatever was there before the update would stay because it was perfectly fine that way and now its not a playstation 3 anymore its a playstation 1 sorry to say it but it feels like a nintendo wii which has a maximum resolution of 480p. see what i mean thre is no real words to explain the mistake they made.. they need to smarten up and the first thing they could do is to get rid of this stupid update!!

official playstation store icon under the playstation network menu section of the xmb seemed good enough because thats where somebody should look when theyre thinking of visiting the playstation store which is apart of the playstation network. now there is a playstation store shortcut icon in the VIDEO section which is not able to be accessed in some countries. and 1 under the GAME section. what is the point of this? it was fine the way it was and now its actually worse it is not considered to be a firmware update it is a firmware downgrade if u ask me it totally destroyed the ps3 no questions asked…the completely new look of the clock in the top right corner of the screen was fine the way it was to not everyone likes to use playstation network to play video games i know i dont anymore i use a pc which is far better…the titles for everything pretty much all disappear except for the ones under the —SYSTEM— options area of the xmb, i understand its ovbiously because people felt like they would be lost while scrolling through a list..how is that possible? the writing would flash a bit and it was so ovbious to know which part it is at. now when the titles disappear its actually more confusing since i only use my ps3 for playing x264 video files (100-1000) so i gotta huge list and before update 3.00 i was reading everything just fine and now it makes it more a hassle and it ruins the look of the xmb as well it looked better with all the text showing in the background it looked more “normal”. and then the bigger font size which is not really needed for everybody so why have it all in this update like its “mandatory” and has to permanently stay. we should be allowed to pick what we want and what we dont want/need. to let you the truth, i dont want playstation home, life with playstation, whats new, photo gallery, internet browser (which is crap by the way since it has no real flash or java versions hah even if it did it still wouldnt be that great). the people of sony should be arrested for impersonating what you would call a good business. because with pointless moves like this, sony is simply begging for the downfall of their entire organization. they put so much of their money into making these PS3′s so why don’t they put the time and real effort into updating it PROFESSIONALLY instead of just playing around. its nothing but a shame, do you honestly think Sony Playstation 3 would die without update 3.00? if NO then why was it ever needed in the first place? and ovbiously YES is not an option because it wouldnt make any sense everybody knows that. its the biggest mistake that sony has ever made with the PS3 and i say that with disgust because i own a suped up launch ps3 and have a real good amount of pc knowledge i take a course in pc repair and i can be a pirator if i chose to be so u know where im coming from…and to tell you the truth the main reason why this firmware update 3.00 is the biggest mistake sony ever made to date with the PS3 so far is because alot of the things they considered to be “improvements” in the past have also been declared pointless and stupid except they didnt really RUIN anything because it was still decent and now it is a total piece of waste. it makes the ps3 look like it should never be bought by another customer again. only the people who went out now to go buy their very first ps3 cuz the slim version is now available are the ones who most likely wont complain cuz they dont really have to much of a clue about how it used to be before the update 3.00 because even if they had played ps3 before but never owned one its a whole different story, they never used it day in day out on a daily basis so they dont have true knowledge about the way it operated in all aspects and ways. i have a launch ps3 and its suped with bigger hard drive and more usb ports than the original 4 and filled with x264 encoded video files which is all i use my ps3 for now so why is playstation network even needed when it comes to me? its not so then everything else in the playstation network wont be needed either like ps home, store and so on but it didnt bother me that it was because it was optional to use or not and i just never did but if i wanted to i could like how anyone else would. but these new things like the 2 shortcuts of the playstation store in videos and in games section…why? its such a god damn shame if sony wants to make a real improvement with their ps3 console they need to get rid of FW 3.00 and fix it to how it was just before this nightmare or have it all optional to have because every single person is not apart of the majority, of the world’s population who have no true knowledge about electronics. fixing this issue here would be the first thing sony could do to make things better. the person or people who made this update should be fired from their jobs cuz they dont do their job correct. it is not a joke it is fact i hate to say it but its true, sony is an embarrassment only if youre able to notice and believe me, having all the knowledge i do so far about how to use a pc and all…i have the right to say that because they should be doing real things that benefit all users not just for helping alot and ruining it for others it should be perfectly equal and how would that be done?? for this whole optional thing alot of people including myself are speaking of…it should be like this…

how in the theme settings there is the option to enable the classic original look of the xmb or this new sparkly one

see when you choose to have the classic one then it simply reverts back to how it looked like in FW 2.80 (background only) but ok take that and think..

the ‘whats new’ icon located in the playstation network area of the xmb can be set-up to not be the startpoint of the xmb when you start the ps3 up, by going to the system settings somewhere and disabling ‘whats new’ or whatever that new option was. it keeps the ‘whats new’ icon always there but when the ps3 starts up it will start up in the game area of the xmb instead of ‘whats new’

to those of you who hate the whole entire ticker thing in the top right corner of your screen, there is an easy successfull way that works, to remove the text at teh bottom of it that keeps saying the same thing of whats new this week or whatever (right underneath the time, the text moving always). to get rid of that text that is moving, go to ‘date and time settings’ and then go to the YEAR which would be 2009 and then manually edit it to anything in the future, so if it is 2009 now then just simply change it to something higher like 2010 or higher but it would be best to put something new like 2067 for example because it will stay 100% that way. then once you have set the year to its new number the ps3 will need a restart so just turn it off and turn it back on whenever and it will be done. it will not get rid of the whole entire clock and everything there in that top right corner but it get rids of the stupid moving text talkin about the shyt that is new…sony is a disgrace to the electronics industry with their pathetic shameful stupid pointless DISGRACEFUL firmware ‘down’grade no way in hell will it ever be considered a true update because it never updated anything it only ruined everything it really ruined the ps3 and not just the look and feel of the xmb the entire system feels worthless you better fix it the way we need it, not just fix it to put some of the things back to normal…you put all of them back to the way it was in FW 2.80 you understand us sony or you will pay with your drops of blood and bankruptcy for 1……..ps3 is officially old i guess u could kall it then…it really went down quite a few knotches with this stupid firmware 3.00, how ridiculous…and you can see the video of the idiot who is responsible for this new firmware 3.00 explaining what is new and stuff…fucken fag has a smile on his face thinkin hes the only person in the world who knows anythin about electronic devices, yet another reason why i am able to state that sony is nothing but a true shame when it comes to doing anything whatsoever your mistake will not be tolerated again you hear me? cuz you better not unless you want to ruin the legacy of what the ps3 has become so far and the downfall has already begun since the pathetic release of GTA IV …believe that
