PS3 Slim: Firmware 3.0 and content download problem

Following on from the release of the Playstation 3 Firmware Update 3.0 that went live this morning, it has been reported that some of you are having problems downloading content from the store when using a PS3 Slim.

Thats according to this story from PSNAtHome, who have reported users being issued with a “Please Deactivate a System” message from the store, when trying to re-download content onto a Slim console.

We are not sure of the legitimacy of the following statement, but this is apparently a quote from a Sony customer service rep, regarding the issue:

“I am not suppose to tell anyone about this but, since retailers sold the slim PS3 before the release day which is September 1st, the PlayStation 3 Slim was released with a small bug which prevents from downloading Video and Game Content since the firmware is not compatible with the content, this is why were releasing a patch (version 3.00) either later on today or possibly a day after”

As we mentioned above, the problem only seems to be affecting a number of you, as some people have tried the same process with no problems at all.

    hi, i have the older ps3 and it updated today with the firmware 3.0. ever since it struggles to play games, hardly goes online and my hdmi conection keeps “fuzzing out”, (goes all crakly and i cant see much). is this a malfunction due to the update being a duff??? please respond asap. matt

    Umm, Rainbow Six Vegas crashes occasionally durign game play which is annoying after the update. But other than that it’s alright.

    my fan got fucked up after i update it, it;s like my fan is in highspeed like after 5 mintutes i play the game w/c is normal but the thing is when i quit the game, the fan still stays in highspeed on the XMD even without doing anything. though the sound is normal not that loud compare to the 360 but the thing is it just doesnt stop.though when i turn on the ps3 it’s quiet it’s just that when i start playing a game.

    I own the PS3 slim and ever since I got the new update, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune freezes constantly in the same spot. It worked fine before the update, and there is not a scratch on the disk. I even got a new copy from gamestop and it still didn’t work. Anyone who reads this and owns Uncharted should try playing it. Other people have been having this problem as well.

    I have the original 40 gig ps3 that came with spiderman BD and no problems with the 3.00 other than that anoying giant box under the time and date in my opinion everything is running abit faster but i also replased my motherboard couple weeks back and the rumors are that they put a defective part that cant take the heat thus leads to problems caused i had the same problem with the fan and the game crashs but i am not certain this is to do with the motherboard but when i stuck my own part in big improvement this comment is from my own personal experience and rumors that any one can find i would never take a dump on sony but every console has its problems

    I bought the ps 3 slim and it will play spiderman but it wont play ufc undisputed or mlb 09 the show because it says i need a software update to 1.07 but a minute into the download an error will occur. i know my internet connection is fine. any one else having similar problems, or have an idea on what i should do?

    Making comment like will catch up to you when it happens to you. Look here. I have an Original PS3 and have not had any problems with it until this new update. At first my console couldn’t read the USB ports then froze while in the menu screen and NOW it powers down after a few seconds.

    i am haveing the same prob with RE5 it says i need an update to play but an error will occur this is ticking me off cause i am an xbox guy and i finally bought a ps3 so that i could have the best of both worlds… got anything i can do to fix this i dont know much about ps3…?

    Since update only problem is with Uncharted, keeps crashing at same point, apparently I’m not alone on this.

    yes, but don’t buy it now when people are having problems with their consoles, instead buy ps3 slim when sony develop a new update. (Not firmware update 3.0)

    I bought the 80GB Ps3 Last Febuary and it works fine with the 3.00 update, no problems. The only problems ive had with my ps3 are a couple restarts every once in a while when i quit a game, and the fan got loud for a minute or so one time. Other than that im happy. I was thinking about trading in for a Slim, but i think im good with all the problems there are…

    Hi, i have the original ps3 60gb and 2 of the 80gb, after the last update only the 60gb stop working and 80s are running fine. After installing the update my friends have same trouble with they ps3, all of them have the 60gbs, i cant think this is coincidence..

    I see this “trouble” and cant quit the idea of the ps3 slim released few days ago, forcing? the owners of the firsts ps3 renew the model. Maybe because ps3 60gb can play ps2 games?, have memory slot and 4 usb?, i cant understand why the Sony want to kill the best model of the ps3, with a slim 80gb it cant do more than a 40gb, i know sound stupid but i dont like to be “pushed” to buy something inferior…

    bought Uncharted, played for about 20 minutes and game froze. took it back to gamestop and got another disc. yea game freezes again at same spot. bummer it seems like a great game, i got a PS3 slim also.

    get a job, earn $350. and your good to go. But then play so much you lose your job and cannot afford the video game. All fun.
    I have the 699. ps3 that I am throwing in the trash, it was repaired 4 times. still does not work due to firm ware update. sony sucks too.
