EBay Selling Skype
By: Jamie Pert | September 1, 2009 | Leave a CommentAccording to a recent report on ComputerWorld it seems that eBay will soon announce a deal which will sell its Skype VoIP service to a group of private investors, when eBay originally acquired Skype they paid $2.6 billion, however this latest deal is said to only be worth $2 billion, the official announcement of this deal is expected today, however nothing is guaranteed.
Skype is currently the global market leader in VoIP services, as of June there was said to be 480.5 million registered users, and this figure is always growing, which obviously also means revenue is growing and growing.
There are a few major names which are being rumored to be interested in the Skype acquisition, these names include Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, also there is rumored to be interest from Skype’s founders, Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom. As we hear more official news we will keep you updated.
