Samsung Omnia 2, revolutionize the way you text and email

By: Daniel Chubb | August 28, 2009 | 7 Comments

Every time I hear somebody mention the word “Omnia” in a sentence it causes me to wince or just randomly burst into tears, I personally own the original 8gb Samsung Omnia and I can honestly say that out of all the phones I have ever owned, the Omnia is in its own league when it comes to useless dysfunctional equipment. Terrible to navigate, terrible battery life, terrible sound quality during calls, restricted functionality for things like the GPS, constant memory problems, bugs in the firmware and the list goes on and on, not to mention the useless Samsung customer support and the ridiculous price of the unit itself.

So lets hope that the Omnia 2 will fix everything that made the original Omnia as useless as it was. According to the Samsung site “The Samsung Omnia II will revolutionize the way you text and email – faster and more accurately. Plus, it’s loaded with the latest in business and multimedia functionality.”

Unfortunately this marketing jargon sounds very similar to what was written about the Original Omnia before release. I think anyone who owned the original Omnia or knows someone who owned an original Omnia will NOT end up upgrading to this phone, unless of course the phone receives fantastic all-round reviews. We will keep you updated regarding this one, but for now we would advise readers to wait for some hands on reviews before pre-ordering this phone!

Of course this is purely my opinion from my experiences, but maybe you have had a different experience with a Samsung Omnia? Or maybe you have had an equally as bad or maybe even worse experience with the original. Let us know here at Product Reviews!

    Hi,

I just got the Omnia and feel the same way you feel about it. I called Verizon and I have 30 days to try it out and trade it in if I dont want it. I have looked for information online and can not formulate an opinion on what other phone to get. I need to be able to create emails, keep a calender updated to my PCs, internet and all the other stuff is nice but not necessary. Can you give me your opinion on a phone?

    Thanks for your time,
    Paulo

Well my first big of advice would be this:

Don’t be tempted to get a Blackberry, don’t even look at them!

If you want a decent phone with e-mail and calendar capabilities plus lots more without getting too complicated, I would advise you check out the Nokia E71 and E71x. I would have to say it is one of the best pieces of kit I have tried in quite some time, but here is a quick bit of advice for you. The Nokia E72 is just around the corner and is expected to be announced for release in the coming months.

The Nokia E72 has significant improvements over the E71 and E71x. You should definately check all these phones out at the Nokia site, and definately make sure you try before you buy, some people really struggle to use the buttons, but I have fairly big hands and big fingers and I had no issue with the E71′s keyboard.

Good luck with your choice anyways, and let us know what phone you everntually decide on getting!

I’ve had the original Omnia for quite a while now, and I love it. Everything you have said about it I think is just horribly wrong.
You need to learn how to use windows mobile :)
I will actually be upgrading to the Omnia 2 (or pro if it comes to the U.S.)

    Thanks,
    Tania

Your one lucky person Tania ^^

Before you, I had yet to be able to find a person who could give a positive review on the original Omnia, even Samsung themselves acknowledged over their forums that there was many problems with the unit, they promised to fix via firmware upgrades but never did (suprise, surprise xD).

What firmware are you running on your unit? Do you the omnia to its full potential? Internet, e-mail, GPS etc etc?

Anyways, if you do get the Omnia 2 (or Pro) let us know how you get on with it, would be interesting to see how people get along with it.

hi. i have an omnia with verizon. ive had 3 of them.verizon has really gotten under my skin about this phone. ive had memory issues and lag and everything else. i paid full retail back in may with my tax return. 623 dollars. then turned around abd had to give another 50 into it to replace it because the guy that sold me the phone told me there was a screen protector on it. so the one they sent me missed up. and had to get another. this took forever. after all this some things came to mind. when i use the internet of anything on it it gets hot. every time i wanted to click on something like ok or enter on google id have to tap a half inch or a quarter of an inch below what i wanted. i finally went back into a verizon store a few weeks ago to get more screen protectors and i saw they had more widgets on there om on the display. i asked the lady and she said i had to buy them from the vzappzone. i looked damn well already knowing there wasnt cause i looked through it months before and uninstalled the stupid money maker. i found out the update came out. and i got it. and it does do a little better but its still about the same. ive tired to make things better on my om but its had when u dont have a pc on the net and ur kinda moneyless working ur like away. i will look hard at the om II. ill probably get one if its half better. if it ever comes.

i thought this was supposed to be a review of the omnia 2, not the omnia.

maybe you should change the title of your review.
