Following on from our reports yesterday that the Xbox 360 Elite would be receiving a price cut in the U.S, we can also confirm that Microsoft will be cutting the price of the Xbox 360 Elite console in the UK too.
As reported by Eurogamer, the price cut will come into effect as of tomorrow (28th August), and will see the Elite reduced to £199.99. That is a price cut of £30 from the original price, but it has also been confirmed that the Elite console will not come bundled with an HDMI cable.
We already informed you a while back that the Xbox 360 Arcade model will receive a price increase, but that has also been confirmed. The new price for the Arcade bundle will stand at £159.99 and will not be packaged with any software.

These price “cuts” suck, M$ have got it very wrong. Why remove choice from the consumer, which was previously the sales motto for the 360. Why phase out the 60gb but keep the lame Arcade with an increased price, which could previously be found for as little as £99.99. M$ have dropped the ball on this one and may inadvertently help sales of the PS3. For an extra £30-50 consumers will get a smaller, better made console with a Blu-Ray player and built in WiFi.
It used to be about price but these are now so close I think the consumer will start looking at value for money, if I was new to this generation and looking to buy a new console based on cost and value the PS3 Slim would win easily.
Makes the Arcade pretty pointless now, aside from the advertising ploy of putting “From £159.99″ at the end of their ads - you would have to be crazy not to pay the extra £39 for the Elite! I hope poor parents realise that when out Christmas shopping!
I still think Sony will receive the greater benefit from the price cut and redesign over the Christmas period though. An extra £30 (Slim is £229 in some shops) to add Wi-Fi, Blu-ray, free online and games like GT5, Uncharted 2 and God of War III seems like a good deal to me…
I agree, it does seem pretty odd from Microsoft’s point of view. Hardly anyone with the right frame of mind, is going to buy the Arcade, now that it comes with nothing.
