Snow Leopard includes anti-malware feature

By: Alan Ng | August 26, 2009 | 1 Comment

It has been widely reported that Apple will ship all versions of their upcoming Mac OS X Snow Leopard software with a built-in anti malware feature. Apple have made it no secret that their Mac OS X is generally ‘virus free’, but it looks as if they are taking no chances with their next OS release.

According to AppleInsider, the new feature will simply scan your system for files that could contain malware on it. One of the files that Snow Leopard will ‘apparently’ identify is the .DMG file which prompts you to move it into the trash, as it contains the OSX.RSPlug.A malware.

However, the malware isnt deemed as too serious, so Apple are obviously just including the anti-malware feature as a matter of protection.

Not too surprising. I consider Macs very close to virus free but still have Intego running incase something harmful shows up one day. Not surprised Apple is at least putting something in there to allow them to counter future malware that may come up.
