Cash for Refrigerators Program: Appliance retailers giving $50-$200

Following the extremely popular and successful Cash for Clunkers program it now seems that the U.S government are going to apply for a similar program, however instead of vehicles the program will be aimed towards inefficient refrigerators and other household appliances.

The Cash For Refrigerators Rebate Program will offer $50-$200 in exchange for inefficient household appliances, obviously this money will only be rebated to you if you choose to buy an efficient model.

The U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu had this to say on the matter “These rebates will help families make the transition to more efficient appliances, making purchases that will directly stimulate the economy.” For more details check out TheInquisitr’s article here.

  1. Rebates for refrigerators and appliances is not a new program. However, the success of the Cash for Clunkers program will create a buzz around this program which has a huge injection ($300M) of stimulus money thrown into it. I just hope people don’t turn their old fridge into a second refrigerator or a “beer fridge” because that defeats the purpose of getting an energy efficient appliance.
