Apple’s App Store practices and the FCC
By: Jamie Pert | August 24, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing the massively unpopular decision for Apple to reject Google Voice from their App Store, a hugely detailed three page article has recently been posted on ComputerWorld, to see the fully detailed article follow this link.
Apple’s response to the FCC questions basically said that Apple were currently studying the “potential impact on the iPhone user experience.”. At the time of the removal of Google Voice from the App Store Apple also removed a similar application called VoiceCentral.
VoiceCentral’s developer Riverturn were told that VoiceCentral had been pulled because it “duplicates features of the iPhone”, however Apple would not expand on this reason, Kevin Duerr who is the chief executive of Riverturn also says that Apple were less than helpful when Duerr asked in which ways they could modify the software to meet Apple requirements.
A lot of Deurr’s claims completely contradict what Apple told the FCC and I would imagine the App Store approval system will be under close watch from the FCC.
Do you think Apple’s removals of Google Voice and VoiceCentral are justified?
