Nokia N900: Running Maemo not Symbian

A new article has recently showed up on NokNok showing the new Nokia N900 handset, this handset is said to be quite similar to the Nokia N97, however one major difference is that the handset does not run the Symbian OS which the N Series are popular for running, instead it runs the Maemo 5 OS.
Personally having owned both the Nokia N95 and Nokia N96 I have found one of the most annoying thing about the handsets is the slow Symbian OS, so I feel that the Maemo 5 Linux-based OS could be great for future Nokia handsets.
Like the Nokia N97 the handset has a 3.5 inch touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera (with Carl Zeiss optics), a full QWERTY keyboard and HSDPA and GPS. However unlike the N97 the N900’s uses a standard slide out keyboard instead of the angled hinge.
Check out NokNok’s article here, which features more information and even a few screenshots of the handset OS.
Are you happy that the N900 isn’t using Symbian?

Are you sure the n900 will be speedier because it’s running maemo? For me, the difference is the OMAP3. Maemo is excellent, very versatile and open, but I don’t think it’s in itself speedier than Symbian.

Having used Maemo on the N800 & N810 it certainly feels more responsive than my Symbian S60 based based E90.
