PS3 Slim Has New Upgraded Cell Processor
By: Alan Ng | August 20, 2009 | 2 CommentsIt has been rumored that the new PS3 Slim console features an upgraded Cell Processor, than the one contained in the ‘beefy’ model. All the following details are according to an IBM spokesman (one of the developers along with Toshiba and Sony), so its rather strange that Sony didn’t announce anything like this at GamesCom.
According to this article from Engadget, the PS3 Slim makes use of smaller, more efficient, and 45-nm processes this time around, compared to the 65-nm processes that are featured in the original model.
These 45-nm processors are cheaper and requires around 40% less power than the 65-nm chips. Well if the details above are true, it may mean that the PS3 Slim is faster than the original model and if that is the case, then who on earth is going to buy a normal PS3 in favor of the Slim?
As for now, these details are yet to be confirmed, but we’ll update you when we hear more. We want your thoughts on this.
