Apple iTunes captures 25 percent of all retail music sales

According to a recent study carried out it seems that Apple’s iTunes captures approximately 25 percent of all retail music sales in the U.S. The sales data was collected by the NPD Group and looks includes digital sales as well as CD’s etc.
The closest competitor to iTunes in the U.S is Walmart who currently hold an approximate 14 percent market share, also digital downloads accommodate 35 percent of the market, out of that 35 percent iTunes accounts got 69 percent, this shows the dominance iTunes has in the digital download market.
The closest competitor to Apple in digital downloads is Amazon, however they only hold an 8 percent share of the paid music downloads market. To see full details on the matter check out AppleInsiders article here.
