PS3 firmware 3.00 update: What’s New, and revamped XMB

Staying with the trend of ‘reporting official announcements from Sony that have already been reported or rumored’, we can confirm to you that Sony have announced a new and upcoming firmware version for the Playstation 3 console.

As Joystiq reports, the new firmware will be version 3.00 as expected, and will bring many new features and additions to you. it wont be released until 1st September, but Sony made sure to give everyone a good heads up on what we can expect to see when its out:

Lets start with the most notable features within the new update. The XMB will now support animated themes, which Sony demoed at GamesCom. Another new feature is the ‘What’s New’ section, which will replace the Information Bar and will display a wider variety of news in a slick new display.

Other additions include a ‘Status Indicator’, a redesigned friends list, dynamic custom themes and improvements to the trophy system.
