Blu-ray sales up, prices still high
By: Jamie Pert | August 17, 2009 | Leave a CommentAccording to a recent article which showed up on www.news.com.au it seems that Blu-ray has been adopted on the whole much faster than DVD, however it doesn’t look like there will be any drop in price anytime soon.
At the moment Blu-ray releases are on average approximately 30 percent more expensive than the DVD equivalents, experts believe that this price difference is not likely to change for a while, a spokesperson for Sony had this to say on the matter “New releases are a premium product and price, like anything will evolve over time”.
According to the article approximately 50 million Blu-ray players have been sold overall, 23.8 million of those are the Sony PlayStation 3. With the ever growing popularity of Blu-ray I would imagine prices will gradually fall, however I can’t see the prices changing hugely, perhaps until online HD video services start competing.
