Nvidia equipped Sony Vaio laptops may fail

According to a recent post on ComputerWorld it seems that Sony are reporting that some of their Vaio laptops with Nvidia graphics chips could ultimately fail, this is due to some of these Nvidia chips being faulty and overheating.

Sony are not the only manufacturer with the same issue, Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard are reporting the same problem. Sony are providing free repairs on affected laptops and also extend the 12 month warranty to 36 months, however they do not offer any refunds.

If your laptop is suffering from the issue the symptoms of the faulty chips can be distorted video, duplicate images and a blank screen. If you have a Sony Vaio laptop with Nvidia graphics and are experiencing any of these issues I would recommend contacting the manufacturers warranty division.

For full details on the problem check out ComputerWorld, their article also includes a list of Vaio laptops with Nvidia graphics chips.
