Symbian 4 will finally break app compatibility

In a recent interview with David Wood who is the Catalyst and Futurist of Symbian Foundation it has been revealed that Symbian 4 will use the Qt programming environment for S60 application development. This is due to Qt being regarded as a “productive, elegant set of class libraries, with a great deal of active community support”.

David’s “Catalyst and Futurist” role basically means that he must find ways for Symbian software to develop and push the boundaries, this entails exploring many new technologies and overcoming the challenges associated with them.

The news that S60 will now be using the Qt programming environment is huge as currently Avkon API’s are used to create the user interfaces and applications will be phased out, this means that we should see a completely new appearance for Symbian OS as of Symbian 4.
