DDoS Attacks Update: Security experts making progress

The distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that crippled Twitter for a number of hours on August 6, is now behind them as security experts have made great progress in their efforts to identify the attackers who were responsible.

Those same security experts have also come up with strong evidence that confirms the DDoS attacks that hit Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LiveJournal were caused by attackes that targeted a pro-Georgian activist and blogger. As of August 7, Computer reports that they have yet to catch those responsible for the attacks.

Since then, Twitter has admitted that the attacks were “geopolitical in motivation.” McAfee has now managed to identify six separate DDoS attacks against a number of Cyxymu users, along with a spam e-mail campaign, which targets Cyxymu’s Gmail account.
