2010 Jaguar XJ: Dual-view console may be illegal in U.S.
By: Peter Chubb | August 10, 2009 | Leave a CommentThe Dual-view console, which houses the sat-nav and video screen in the 2010 Jaguar XJ, may be illegal in U.S., which the cars designer has admitted. According to Autocar, this dual screen is designed to give the driver different images when you look at it from different directions.
This system allows the driver to view the sat-nat while the passenger can watch a movie. Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design chief has said that at the moment, this system is still “technically illegal.” It seems that U.S. laws do not allow cars to have entertainment systems in the front, as drivers could become distracted.
In Jaguars defense, the system does not allow the driver to access the entertainment functions while driving, and the driver cannot see the passenger screen. Jaguar now hopes that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will make an exception and allow for the use of the dual-view console.
