Windows 7: Preparing for the upgrade
By: Jamie Pert | August 7, 2009 | Leave a CommentFor those of you looking to run Windows 7 in the near future an article has appeared on NYTimes, this article answers one major question, this question is “My computer is a few years old. Will it be able to handle Windows 7 if I decide to upgrade my operating system?”
Microsoft Windows 7 boasts relatively low minimum specifications, which should mean most Windows XP based system should run Windows 7. Any Vista PC should run Windows 7. Microsoft have release “The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta”, which when run on your PC should tell you whether it will run Windows 7.
One thing to remember is that there is a big difference between minimum specifications and recommended specifications, minimum specifications will run the OS albeit pretty badly, however recommended specifications should give you a good experience of Windows 7.
As long as your PC has a processor of at least 1Ghz, 1GB of RAM and a hard disk with 16GB’s of free space it should run Windows 7. If you wish to run the 64-bit version of the OS you will need 2GB of RAM and 20GB of free hardisk space.
