According to an article shown on USAToday, it seems that the recent Cash for Clunkers program has seen a majority of the vehicles that have been sold are from foreign manufacturers. The most popular cars have been the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Dodge Caliber and the Toyota Prius hybrid.
According to a breakdown from the NHTSA (Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the percentages of cars sold for different manufacturers for the Cash for Clunkers program are as followed, General Motors 18.7%, Toyota 17.9%, Ford 16.0%, Honda 11.6%, Chrysler 10.6%, Nissan 7.0%, Hyundai 6.6%, Kia 3.8%, Mazda 2.3%, Subaru 2.2%, Volkswagen 1.9%, Suzuki 0.4%, Mini 0.3%, Mitsubishi 0.3%, Smart 0.2% and Volvo 0.1%.
Many Americans are annoyed that foreign manufacturer cars were eligible for the Cash for Clunkers program, as if it was limited for American manufactured vehicles it would have done more for the American economy.
