Palm Pre: Living Up to the Hype
By: Jamie Pert | August 6, 2009 | Leave a CommentInitially when the Palm Pre was launched the expectations from Palm and also its Palm Pre customers were high, well now it has been out for pretty much two months BusinessWeek have written an article looking into whether or not the Pre lives up to all the hype.
Experts predict within the first three months of the Pre’s release Palm are expecting to sell between 300,000 to 500,000 handsets, this falls short of original estimates. Due to the slightly disappointing sales this may cause difficulties when Palm approach other carriers, one expert said “If Sprint can’t prove that the Pre is an iPhone killer, it’ll really affect the level of subsidies”.
The Palm Pre’s biggest competition is the Apple iPhone 3GS, in comparison to the Palm Pre’s expected sales of 300,000 to 500,000 the iPhone 3GS managed to sell one million handsets within the first weekend. This competition has also caused Apple to block the Palm Pre from syncing with iTunes, which Palm managed to get around.
