Cash for Cars: Senate discussions continue

Senate Democrats now face a White House deadline over trying to pass through a further $2 billion for the Cash for Clunkers Program. However, they seem to be having trouble getting Republicans on their side to extend the Car Allowance Rebate System or CARS.

We reported a few days back that the $1 billion that was put aside for the program had run out in a week. The Senate has now been asking why the money ran out so quick, as it was meant to last up until November. Fox news reports that Senate discussions will continue on Tuesday.

Recent data released shows that new vehicles sold under the Cash for Clunkers program were 61 percent more fuel efficient than the trade-in vehicles. This shows that the program has worked, as more gas-guzzling vehicles have now been taken off the roads.
