Car dealers have reported record sales over the weekend, one Chevrolet dealer has said it is because of the Cash for Clunkers program. He said that he has been in business for more than 20 years and he has seen more activity from this program than he has ever seen before.
However, the Cash for Clunkers could be heading for a breakdown that is unless the Senate approves a bill for a further $2 billion for the program by Friday. In an AP video report, Robert Gibbs, the White House Press Secretary said that if it does not happen this week, then it is unlikely that they will make it to the weekend with a program that can continue.
Some Senate conservatives are skeptical as they were told that the program would last for several months, as it turned out, in run out of funds in about a week. They said that this prompted the house to try to rush through a further $2 billion before anybody can work out what happened to the first billion dollars.
