Following our post last week regarding the virus which is apparently a risk to the iPhone ComputerWorld have created an article laying out the potential risks and what you should do to try and do to stay clear of the virus.
First of all the virus exploits a memory corruption, this corruption is deep within the way the iPhone handles SMS messages, if you are unlucky enough to be targeted by a hacker you will receive a text message, in this text there will be a square, after this the hacker will then have to send anther 511 messages to complete the hack, these other 511 messages may well be silent and unnoticeable for the user. Apparently all you have to do if you receive the square message is either turn your phone of or switching it to Airplane Mode.
If you are unlucky enough to become infected the affects may vary however it seems that it will firstly turn your handset onto Denial of Service (DOS), this will then not allow you to make or receive phonecalls, it will also send spam texts to your contacts, this then spreads the virus. Personal data on the handset may also be at risk. One of the scariest things about the infection is that fact that it can be almost completely silent, and requires no user interaction.
The good news is that the virus is not out yet and a lot of the potential of the virus is unconfirmed, hopefully Apple will patch the security flaw and it will not affect anyone. Check out ComputerWorld for full details.
