Cash for Clunkers Program: Targeted by crooks

Although the Cash for Clunkers scheme has now been suspended, I thought it would be a good idea to advise our readers of scams that are currently trying to exploit Cash For Clunkers.

Earlier this week the Federal Trade Commission warned that scam artists have created some websites which seem to offer useful information regarding the Cash For Clunkers scheme, however some of the exploiting websites also ask for personal details such as names, addresses and Social Security numbers. Under no circumstances must you submit these details, no registration is necessary to become eligible for the $3,500 or $4,500 credit.

If you do find a website asking for your personal details regarding the Cash for Clunkers scheme please report it to the FTC at ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP (382-4357). The official government Cash For Clunkers website is www.cars.gov.
