IPhone SMS attack imminent?
By: Jamie Pert | July 30, 2009 | Leave a CommentYou may have read our post regarding a vulnerability that was discovered with Apples OS 3.0 for iPhone, this vulnerability allows a hacker to exploit the SMS system on the phone, at the time the exploit was said to be able to crash the phone, however now it seems that the hack may be able to take over the iPhone.
Charlie Miller is the name of the person working on the hack and recently said “SMS is an incredible attack vector for mobile phones,” and added “All I need is your phone number. I don’t need you to click a link or anything.”. It is thought that he will be showing people how to carry out this hack during a presentation at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas on Thursday.
With such a huge iPhone customer base it is in Appleās best interest to release a patch before this security conference, if not they are running the risk of a serious exploitation of their handsets.
Check out the full story on ComputerWorld.
Do you think the vulnerability is as big as Charlie Miller makes out? If so do you think Apple will release a patch before the security conference?
