Guided Tour: HTC Hero UI and the Android OS

By: Alan Ng | July 29, 2009 | 6 Comments

We have a video for you to check out, which demos the lovely TouchFLO 3D powered user interface in the HTC Hero. The UI combined with the Android platform and speedy processor makes for a lovely phone. Watch the video and see for yourself.

As reported from IntoMobile, the HTC Hero is a great addition to the Android lineup and thanks to its impressive features, is able to stand on its own feet against the likes of the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre.

With specs such as a 5MP camera, GPS, capacitance touchscreen, fast processor and WiFi its definately a phone you should consider if you’re looking for a new handset at the moment.

Check out the guided tour of the HTC Hero UI and let us know what you think of it.

I just ordered a Hero from a website this morning and I’m drooling like Homer Simpson, I’ve never been so excited about a smartphone. I side-stepped the iphone even though I had the money to get one simply because it seems everyone has one and its driving me insane. Don’t get me wrong I know its the best out there but across all the versions (including the itouch) it’s basically been the same device since its creation and that really bores me.

I agree, the Hero looks like a great phone, but the lack of a 3.5mm jack really put me off, as I really enjoy my music on the go.

I’m sure you’ll be pleased with your purchase though!

there is a 3.5mm jack at the top of the phone. the phones music player is really good aswell. also the phone can store up too 16gb of memory so it can hold just as many songs the the iphone in 16gig

Ah silly me, I was getting confused with the HTC Touch Pro2 for some reason. +1 to the Hero then!

It has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Btw tons of reviews will tell you about a laggy interface though. “due to a weak processor”. 528 Mhz is good enough for a smart phone (snapdragon 1ghz is next gen and would lead to high prices for the unit = less market penetration). If you aren’t running just about EVERY widget on the device (like on the “clean slate” scene) the phone works perfectly. These reviewers forget that because your able customize the hero means you can run only those apps and widgets that you want, WHENEVER you want (all in a the best user interface since the iphone first arrived). Just because you can have a lot of widgets doesn’t mean you have to or should (that’s just gluttony and stupid). Not shooting down the iphone or anything but even with is 600Mhz processor it CAN’T run those live widgets (run the hero without ANY widgets and still be multitasking AND it would be just as fast (opening up apps that is). Neway look for the fairest review I’ve seen (phandroid or phonedog i think,. Search around for video reviews till you find one discussing the clean slate mode) decide for yourself.

(Can see this was already answered but was having trouble putting comment through)+10 for the Hero.

A feature that should be mentioned more, i think is the amazing auto correction on this device.
I’ve been running on hero for about a month now, and i’m still impressed by what seems to be the phones psychic ability to assemble the correct word even when purposly typing incorrectly.
Another feature that suits me personally as a traveler,
is the ability to choose which network you wish to connect to while roaming. Most any phone, or smart phone for that matter automatically connects to an available network when traveling, but this device let’s you decide which host to connect to, automatically.

Anyway, can’t wait for it to come to the states!
hopefully the UI is as smooth as it is with File Swap enabled.
