Cash for Clunkers Program 2009: Overwhelming Response

By: Daniel Chubb | July 29, 2009 | 1 Comment

According to John Fryar at TimesCall, it seems that the Cash for Clunkers program that the Federal Government launched last Friday has been received really well by the Public in Longmont Colorado, and the computer system that the car dealers have to use to file for certification for the program has crashed multiple times already due to high demand. Under the Cash for Clunkers program, people with older SUV’s, Cars and Trucks will be eligible for credit towards a newer more fuel efficient vehicle of up to $4,500 off the price.

Longmont’s Ford dealerships Brent Robbins has had so much response that he has stated that “It’s hard to count them all”. And the picture it seems is the same across most of the other dealerships too with Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, Subaru and Lexus also doing well with the help of the scheme and each of the local dealers bagging around 20+ deals each, and Dodge bagging a few too.

The program has been criticised by a few people though, some people believing that the Cash for Clunkers program is just a scheme to purely sell cars and not to get those eco un-friendly gas guzzlers off the road, and other people who still can’t afford a car even with the help of the scheme are saying that the government should offer the vehicles that were traded in for sale to people who have even less economic cars.

So have any of you, or anyone you know made use of this scheme? If so, what do you think of it? Money making scheme, or great idea to clean up the highways? Let us know here at Product Reviews!
