Apple iPhone ad claims cleared by advertising watchdog

Apple have recently won a case to do with its iPhone advertising, the advert in question recently said “Yep, there’s an app for just about anything”, “Only on the iPhone”. The Advertising Standard Authority received 10 complaints for this advert as at the time the Google G1 which runs the Android OS offered a similar marketplace.

Apple released a statement saying they only made the claim in the advert as it was far superior to any competing service, currently Apple offer over 50,000 application in 88 countries, whereas the G1 offered 2,100 applications in nine countries. The ASA released a statement saying “Because Apple had shown there were far more applications available for the iPhone than the G1 phone, and user experience of the iPhone and the App Store was distinct from its competitor, we concluded that the claim ‘only on the iPhone’ was justified and not misleading,” said the ASA in its ruling.
