Vodafone and T-Mobile: UK Consolidation
By: Peter Chubb | July 28, 2009 | Leave a CommentVodafone have been asking for consolidation with other UK networks, this has lead to rumors that the UK mobile phone network is looking to make a bid for T-Mobile UK. Vittorio Colao, Vodafone’s CEO said that the fewer mobile phone networks there are in the UK, the cheaper costs will be for customers.
Mobile Today has reported that Colao would not comment on the rumors of buying T-Mobile, but he did say that there is no reason why a competitor would not want to buy T-Mobile. He did add that the UK has more operators than other markets, meaning that the investment in the mobile phone infrastructure is fragmented.
This announcement has come after Vodafone announced its Q2 earnings, which were £10.74 billion; this was an increase of 9.3 percent in the same period last year. Vodafone have lost 159,000 in the second quarter, this is likely to be a mix of other operators offering better call rates along with better handset.
