Spotify’s iPhone App: Reasons for rejection
By: Jamie Pert | July 28, 2009
Spotify has recently announced its intention to launch an application to run on Apple’s iPhone, however many people believe that Apple will not allow the application in their App Store as it may cause loss of earning for iTunes.
For those of you who don’t know what Spotify is it is basically software which allows you to listen to any song you want instantaneously, there are currently three different memberships you can get, free (add supported, invite only), day pass (24 hour add free) and premium (monthly subscription no ads).
ITProPortal list five main reasons as to why Apple may well not allow Spotify to run on their handsets, these reasons are, it competes with Apple iTunes, offers too much for a single fee, it may cause more similar apps to be launched on the iPhone causing more competition, currently Spotify doesn’t offer a download link which means Apple can’t tax cash per download, and finally if Apple ever plan to launch their own Spotify-like application, why allow competing brands on their OS. To see all of these reasons in more detail check out the original article here.
