Nummi Plant News: Fate uncertain in 2009
By: Peter Chubb | July 28, 2009 | 1 CommentThe Nummi Plant or New United Motor Manufacturing that was created by General Motors and Toyota has now cheated death on a number of occasions. The Fremont auto factory will continue to build cars up until October; this is according to a report from The San Francisco Chronicle.
We mentioned in an article last month that GM were to walk away from the factory that it shares with Toyota, the Japanese automaker is also considering walking away. This has now given an air of uncertainty to the Nummi Plant.
Kunihiko Ogura, the chief executive of Nummi gave workers the news that he had enough orders for new cars to last until October; this is thanks to the recent cash for clunkers deal, which we spoke about in an earlier article. Workers now hope that the government will help to keep the factory open longer.
