Apple iPhone and China Unicom Deal
By: Peter Chubb | July 28, 2009 | 1 CommentChina Unicom has finally reached a deal with Apple and its exclusive sale of the iPhone. The deal will last for three years; this is according to a report from China’s own national news agency. There are no more details yet, but we are certain that Engadget Mobile will have some follow up news on the deal shortly. China Unicom are also in talks to offer the G1 handset
The Apple iPhone will be using China Unicom’s 3G network, it is not certain if the carrier will be offering the 3G or 3GS, maybe they will offer both handsets. Engadget Mobile is not certain if the iPhone’s will come with its Wi-Fi modules.
This new deal means that this will be the first iPhone sold to have branding on it, but Apple is not stupid and understands the huge potential of the Chinese market. It is thought that China Unicom will pay 3,000 Chinese yuan ($439) apiece. It is uncertain how much customers will have to pay for the device and what length of contract they will have to sign up too.
