You can always trust the TED Global conference to show off some truly amazing technology and a device that offers wireless electricity is something worth a closer look. Having a system that is able to deliver power without the need for wires is considered the next advancement for our every day products.
BBC News explains that the technique exploits what they call simple physics; this can be used to charge a number of electronic devices across a number of meters. Eric Giler from Witricity was the US Company who was showing off the technology, which was used to charge up cell phones and televisions wirelessly.
Giler had said that the system could replace expensive power cables along with billions of disposable batteries that are wasted each year. While at the TED Global conference, Giler was seen showing off a Google Android G1 phone as well as an Apple iPhone being charged up using the wireless system. The Palm Pre already uses this kind of system, which is called Touchstone.
