Intel 34nm X25-M G2 Drives: firmware fix on way
By: Jamie Pert | July 27, 2009 | Leave a CommentAccording to a report on Engadget it seems that Intel are now planning to release a patch to resolve a recently discovered defect with the new 34nm X25-M G2 drives, this has also caused NewEgg and other vendors to temporarily remove the drive from their websites.
The problem is said to be occur when “a password is set on the drive in the system BIOS, and then changed or disabled later.”, when this happens data corruption can occur. From what we can see there should be a fix within the fortnight.
For those of you who do not intend on password protecting your SSD’s there is nothing stopping your from purchasing the drive now, however if this is a feature you are likely to want to use you should wait for the factory patched drives to be released.
