AT&T blocks 4chan: censoring the web
By: Peter Chubb | July 27, 2009 | 1 CommentFor those of you who are on AT&T DSL in the U.S., customers will know that they are not able to access img.4chan.org (/b/ & r9k). So why is the carrier blocking 4chan and censoring the web, Daily Kos have been spending some time to try to solve the issue.
Some AT&T customers will be wondering what all the fuss is about; this is because not all AT&T DSL users are affected by this. Those who are not affected include AT&T Mobility and AT&T Uverse customers. Daily Kos has said that it is not a DNS issue, those who have been affected have tried OpenDNS, but they still have had no success.
The problem seems to be on a traceroute, the net drops within the AT&T network. Things are confusing at it is not affecting AT&Ts Tier 1 backbone, this is the main bandwidth backbone in the US. The issue is not even affecting the other servers on 4chan.
