Apple iPhone OS 3.1 Update: Augmented Reality Apps
By: Alan Ng | July 27, 2009 | Leave a CommentIts been revealed that Apple are starting to let developers make use of tools needed to design augmented reality applications for the iPhone. The new tools will be available to developers starting from when firmware 3.1 is released.
As reported from MacRumors, augmented reality features the use of GPS, Camera and Compass to produce real-time data onto live video. It has been thought that previous apps with this technology were not approved by Apple due to unpublished APIs, but this is said to change with the iPhone OS 3.1 update.
One of these new apps to get approved is Nearest Tube train finder, which has been developed by Acrossair. Its expected to be released in September and you can see a cool video of the app in action over at MacRumors.
