Intel’s 34nm SSD’s: Reviews starting to emerge
By: Jamie Pert | July 24, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing the recent posts regarding the release of Intel’s new solid state disks a few websites have now started reviewing their performance, if you head over to Engadget there are three reviews you can see by HotHardware, PC Persective and Anandtech.
Pretty much all of the reviews came back favorably, obviously the main thing on Intel’s mind was to reduce cost by making the SSD’s manufacturing process more efficient, along with this they are cheaper for owners to run as they use less power and require less cooling.
The pros from the reviews seem to suggest that its random write performance, read throughput and the Input/Output performance were all above par, along with this the reviews were very happy with its price per gigabyte when compared to other SSD’s.
The cons seemed to be the obvious difference in price when compared to standard hard disk drives (which is expected), the sustained write speeds are said to not be as good as some other SSD’s and apparently minor fragmentation can be seen over time.
In my opinion the pros seriously outweigh the cons, and when you see the affect that these drives have already caused to SSD pricing it is a definite step in the right direction.
