Google Voice: Ringback advertising
By: Jamie Pert | July 24, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing Google’s recent release of Google Voice it now seems that they are working on ways of receiving revenue from the service, one way of doing this is said to be advertising in place of a dial tone, therefore when you are ringing a friend and waiting for them to answer you will hear audio advertisements instead of the dial tone.
The reason this news has come about is because Google have recently updated a patent which they own, this patent is filed as ‘ringback advertising’, there is no mention of Google Voice within the patent so the news is based on an educated guess as it fits in nicely with recent statements from Google Voice product manager Vincent Paquet, who recently admitted they were looking into ways of advertising.
Within the patent it explains that the advertising will be paid on a ‘cost per call’ basis rather than the usual ‘cost per click’. To see the full details checkout the full article on InformationWeek.
