Yahoo to acquire Xoopit: Gmail add-on

Following on from recent news of Yahoo and its new homepage, Yahoo has now confirmed that they are to acquire Xoopit, which we know more as offering a Gmail add-on tool. Xoopit is based in San Francisco and offers a number of tools for mining and redistributing photos and videos, as well as other files that build in web-based email clients.

According to The Register, The Wall Street Journal had reported that Yahoo was in the final stages of negotiations. The search engine giant has been refusing to comment on the story but has finally announced that they are to acquire the start up.

Xoopit have already worked alongside Yahoo with its latest version of Yahoo! Mail, but Xoopit’s original product was a Firefox add-on for the Google Gmail service. Yahoo has said that they will continue to support the Gmail version for now, but it is not certain as to the future of this support.
