Twitter: Potential for more security threats

Twitter: Potential for more security threats

By: Jamie Pert | July 23, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Following the recent hack of Twitter emails via Hotmail a lot of other security threats have been talked about which could affect Twitter users. ComputerWorld have created a two page report which is well worth the read, it explains many different exploitations that users will have to be careful of, along with previous security risks.

One danger to be careful of is shortened URL’s these are used to redirect URL’s with a short name to another location, therefore you never quite know the location you are being taken too, obviously this means links on peoples Twitter profiles can take you to malicious websites even though they look like legitimate links.

Another big security threat to Twitter users are phishing attempts, most of the time these attempts are identified by Twitter and Twitter usually notify their users via email, to many users most phishing attempts are easily identified, however to the less computer literate users these scams can easily exploit users.

For anyone worried out Twitter’s security I would recommend reading the report as it may just save you from being exploited, see the full report on ComputerWorld.
