TerreStar Satellite Phone System: Tests Complete
By: Peter Chubb | July 23, 2009 | Leave a CommentThe first satellite phones were large beasts, much like the first cell phones to hit the market, but we know that technology changes quick. Sat phones are set to become small enough to carry around in your pocket and TerreStar have been running tests on two new satellite phone systems, which are now complete.
These TerreStar hybrid cell phones are not the fat models that we have seen in recent month, these have been on a diet and look a lot like a standard smartphone. TerreStar have now completed an end-to-end test call, which was routed through their TS-1 communications satellite, which was launched in to earth’s orbit earlier this month.
IntoMobile concludes that this successful test has now taken us one-step closer to having a working satellite phone that will not take up to much room in our pants pockets or handbags. The new TerreStar hybrid satellite phones will also be able to work on a traditional cellular network, which will be AT&T.
