KDDI microSD cards with built in WiFi

Mistumi Electric Co Ltd and Renesas Technology Corp have both created microSD cards that have integrated WiFi based on a design by KDDI Corp, both cards are 802.11b and 802.11g compliant, however no details on range have been revealed, this may be a big factor on whether these cards become popular or not, there has also been no details on prices and compatible devices.

There have been a few manufacturers of SD cards which have integrated WiFi however due to the extremely small size of the microSD cards these are the first to be manufactured. Whether these cards will allow handsets with microSD card slots to connect to wireless networks is yet to be seen.
