Chrome OS to run Smartphones: Android was Google’s Guinea Pig
By: Peter Chubb | July 21, 2009 | Leave a CommentSince the launch of Google Android on Smartphones, the OS has been well received and with the news that Android will be made available on netbooks, it was proof at just how popular the operating system had become. There is now a twist in all this with the news of the upcoming Google Chrome OS, there is also a rumor that the OS will also be coming to the Smartphone as well as netbooks, laptops and desktops.
Toms Guide has been trying to understand the implications for Android since the announcement of Chrome OS, as a number of companies have already signed up to the idea of running future netbooks on Google’s Android OS. Toms Guide have made a very interesting statement, saying that “Android was more of a guinea pig for Google.”
Last week Gizmodo reported that Vic Gundotra, Google’s Vice President of Engineering told those who attended the Mobilebeat 2009 Conference that web app development was the future of having a successful mobile platform.
Gundotra did not come right out and say that he was talking about Chrome OS, but it certainly looks as though Google are now moving away from the idea of the Android OS. This certainly puts more weight to the idea that Android was Google’s guinea pig.
