Mozilla has finally released Firefox 3.5.1 update, the first for version 3.5. This patch was released to patch a critical security vulnerability, which was found in the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine. We first mentioned that the first patch for Firefox 3.5 was on its way back at the beginning of the month.
The bug would cause the browser to crash each time some text was entered onto an input box in the site apport.ru. Developers for Firefox did try to isolate the bug as well as produce a minimal test case that will show to them the system crashing, it was found that the usage of JavaScript’s “escape” function, was the trigger for the crash.
According to Ars Technica, researchers Berry-Byrne and Andrew Hayes have found another bug with the release of Firefox 3.5.1, a demonstration of this latest bug can be seen at milw0rm. Both agree that this latest bug is a stack overflow issue.
