General Motors won’t keep Pontiac G8 sedan

Bob LutzGeneral Motors Co. marketing chief seems to have changed his mind yesterday, following this announcement that the automaker would not continue to build the Pontiac G8 sedan. Lutz said that GM would turn it the sedan into a Chevrolet.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Lutz had said on Monday that they will be phasing out the Pontiac brand, but they would still offer the rear-wheel drive car, but under the Chevrolet Caprice. This is just the latest move that GM have made as part of its restructuring plan.

Since then, Frederick “Fritz” Henderson, the GM Chief Executive has said that this move is unlikely. This reversal shows that Henderson has not been able to get GM to run as smoothly as he had hoped. Henderson took over from former CEO Rick Wagoner, who has now received a pension package worth $8.6m.
