Due to the news that Windows 7 is now available to pre-order over in Europe, Microsoft have revealed that the store had crashed, due to overwhelming server demand for the new software.
According to ComputerWorld, customers rushed on to Microsoft’s EU store, hoping to reserve a discounted copy of Windows 7. The crash meant that Microsoft had to deliver the following message to customers:
“Due to the eagerly anticipated Windows 7 pre-order offer, we’re experiencing a higher level of demand on our website than usual. This means you can’t access the site right now and we’re sorry about that.”
CW reports that the website came back up after a while, only to crash again an hour later. Microsoft must be secretly pleased with the outage, which clearly shows a unprecedented level of interest in Windows 7.
Full report over at CW. Did you experience the website crash on the EU store?
