Instant-on Linux platform vendors talk Google Chrome OS
By: Jamie Pert | July 15, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing Google’s announcement of Chrome OS BIOS manufacturer Phoenix Technologies have now announced plans to launch a new version of HyperSpace, HyperSpace is a Linux-based environment which allows quick and easy access to Internet and email, and some other functions.
Phoenix first introduced HyperSpace in 2007, the idea is that it will be an instant-on environment that can allow use of a web browser and ThinkFree’s office suite, obviously usage is limited however the potential is there for more and more usages to develop.
This is in a way what Google’s Chrome OS hopes to do, therefore some see Phoenix’s planned release as a reaction to Google’s announcement, obviously if netbooks start being supplied with Chrome OS it could in-turn cause HyperSpace’s death.
