HTC Windows Mobile Smartphones: Bluetooth vulnerability

Latest reports have revealed that there is a serious bluetooth vulnerability in Windows Mobile powered HTC smartphones. Users have been advised not to accept any bluetooth connections from unknown or untrusted devices.

According to PCWorld, it is a vulnerability in a HTC driver that has been causing all of the problems. Windows Mobile 6 or 6.1 phones with this driver on their phones are now open to attacks, which would allow hackers access to any file on the phone.

The attacker can even upload malicious code once he has connected to your phone, all of these problems coming from a connection using Bluetooth.

Security researcher Alberto Moreno Tablado stated: “HTC devices running Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 6.1 are prone to a directory traversal vulnerability in the Bluetooth OBEX FTP Service”

I would like to point out that this vulnerability does not exist in ALL HTC smart phones running Windows Mobile 6. Models that use the Widcomm Bluetooth Stack provided by Broadcom Corporation (such as the Touch Pro 2) do not contain this vulnerability.
